Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Island Anderby Creek
Frequently asked Questions:
1. Why alter the island:
a. The current island is the focal point for visitors. At present it is unkempt, overgrown with rotting woodwork. The new Island will be a fitting tribute to QEII 2.
2. Why choose to do the Island.
a. The PC have been asking for ideas to improve our parish via Facebook and the Parish webs site (see https://anderby.parish.lincolnshire.gov.uk/news/article/17/how-do-we-improve-our-parish- ) for 6 months. To date we have had zero suggestions.
b. A grant became available for the PC to bid for, which matched the criteria for improving the island.
c. The PC were successful and won £4,300 to improve the island.
3. Why not spend the money for something else.
a. The terms of the grant do not allow this.
b. If the money is not used for the purpose described in the bid, it must be returned.
c. The PC is working with other agencies to improve the local infrastructure. For example, we are backing LCC in their bid for £8 million to improve Roman Bank from Chapel to Sandilands.
4. Why can’t we have a “Scalloped edge” around the island.
a. LCC with not allow it because of insurance.
b. The previous scallops were lost and left a grassy waste land. See https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10158961204717555&set=p.10158961204717555&typ e=3
c. The PC is trying to recycle as much infrastructure as possible, the proposed design uses all current hard structures.
d. Cost
e. The island has been designed keeping maintenance expenses to a minimum. The proposed design, once established, will be virtually maintenance free.
5. Why this design?
a. Any design must be approved by LCCP and LCC.
b. After discussion with parishioners, LCC have approved the design, which can be implemented within budget and the design criteria laid out in the business case.
6. What about pedestrians and seating on the island?
a. The proposed design increases the flat standing for pedestrians crossing the road.
b. There are already 2 large benches 10 yards from the island, with plenty more on the car park and in/on the Cloud Bar.
c. A memorial is meant to be looked at not sat on.
