Saltfleet to Gibraltar Point
Beach Management 2025 – 2027
This is the second phase of works under the strategy for the coastline from Saltfleet to Gibraltar Point.
Through this strategy we aim to create a better place for you, for future generations and the environment.
Beach nourishment
The Environment Agency will start this year’s beach nourishment in May 2025. Our contractor Van Oord
will nourish beaches with sand between Mablethorpe and Skegness. Once our surveys are complete and
the programme is finalised, we will provide updates on specific locations.
As in previous years, a dredger will transport the sand from offshore sites and pump it onto the beach, on
each high tide every day, through a pipeline. Our contractor will then move the sand into the right beach
profile using bulldozers and excavators.
This work will replace sand lost to erosion, reducing wave overtopping during storms, and helping to protect
the sea defences from damage. For everyone’s safety, we will need to close sections of beach from public
access during the works.
The nourishment works will be carried out 24 hours per day and are expected to take 4-6 weeks to
complete.
Mobilisation
Before the works can start our contractor will need to deliver the plant and equipment to the beach at
Moggs Eye and to the site office and compound in Anderby Creek. Deliveries will start after Easter from 22
April 2025 and will take approximately 1 week. As in previous years, whilst we are getting ready for the
work to start, we will be carrying out our pre works activities along the beach. Our working hours will be
from 7am to 7pm.
Clear signage will be set up on the local road network to direct delivery vehicles. Van Oord branded
fingerboard signage will be placed at road junctions to identify the route to site and safety signage,
including heavy plant crossing signs, which will be positioned where appropriate.
Public access
For everyone’s safety, sections of the beach will be closed to the public for short periods of time while the
work is taking place. We will only close the areas that we are working in. Please observe the beach closure
signage, be careful with children, exercise caution with dogs and keep pets on a lead.
We will keep working to reduce any impact that our activities may have on the local community.
