Tragic loss of life at Anderby Creek
Drowning Tragedy at Anderby Creek Beach - 28th June 2025.
The Parish Council would like to express their sincerest sympathies to the Family and Friends of the victim.
This type of event, invariably involving inflatables, occurs all too often.
Sometimes it results in a successful rescue, (which puts the RNLI and/or brave bystanders at risk,) - but all too often the outcome is not so positive.
In this instance, onlookers swam out and saved a 6 year old boy, but could not locate his brother. His body was recovered later by the Emergency Services.
The Parish Council are pressing all responsible agencies to take immediate action to prevent further such calamities. If you want to help - write to our MP, Richard Tice, at the Houses of Parliament, London.
There have been questions raised on Social Media as to the role the Parish Council should have in these circumstances(some negative), so to clarify the PC's position:
While Anderby Parish Council doesn't have direct legal jurisdiction over the beach itself, they are involved generally in its management, and have been vocal about issues like the need for lifeguard services and preventing tragedies.
The council also addresses issues related to the coastal area, such as parking and beach access, and have been involved in discussions about safety measures like barriers.
Perhaps this is an opportunity to also remind people that Parish Councillors do not get paid and they achieve the things that they do because of their Community Spirit and enthusiasm. The area would be far more impoverished should these volunteers resort to only banging away on keyboards.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Anderby Parish Council focuses on the well-being of the community, including the beach area but they have limited powers.
The Councillors have raised over £70000 in grant money over the past few years and this has been spent on making Anderby and Anderby Creek the best it can be.
They have also managed to secure a new facility costing in excess of £30000 free of charge to the Residents and more details of this achievement will be released soon.
They've called for action to prevent tragedies on the beach, particularly involving inflatables, and have expressed concerns about the lack of lifeguard services.
Beach Jurisdiction:
The actual legal jurisdiction over the beach falls under the authority of Lincolnshire County Council and ELDC and other relevant bodies, as the parish council has called for "responsible agencies" to address safety concerns.
Coastal Management:
Anderby Parish Council actively participates in coastal management, as evidenced by their involvement in discussions about barriers, beach access, and parking near the beach.
Specific Concerns.
The parish council has highlighted the need for safety measures like barriers to prevent unauthorized access to certain areas during maintenance or construction. They have also raised concerns about the stability of the beach and potential hazards
Public Safety:
The parish council understands the beach is a popular area and is committed to maintaining public safety, including cordoning off areas where works are taking place.
Signage has been put in place warning of the dangers of using inflatables in the sea and more are on order.
