Minutes March 26
Anderby Parish Council
Notice is given that the Parish Council meeting took place on:
Monday 16th March 2026
Village Hall, Anderby Village.
Prior to the meeting there was a Public Forum which commenced at 7.00 pm during this time Members of the public could ask questions or make short statements to the Council.
Signed – Alan Vassar - Alan Vassar – Clerk to the Council
OPEN FORUM
A Resident had heard that the new cable input (EGL5) is to use the roads through Anderby/new Coast road to bring their materials in.
The question was posed as to why this is. This will lead to excess traffic on our roads where we have no pavements or street lights, and the small bridge at the end of the village is not able to withstand the weight of the heavy lorries.
Viking Link had an alternate route which bypassed the village – why do they not use that?
During general disc ussions, it was noted the following and that these should be flagged to Victoria Atkins MP, Cllr Brookes, ELDC Planning, Highways, Richard Tice MP.
- Will be an excess of heavy vehicle transits many times a day.
- The Village has no street lights, or pavements, and this extra traffic will endanger pedestrian movement.
- There has been no consultation on the route for traffic (EGL3&4)
- There has been no consultation on the route for traffic (EGL5)
- The intention is to route all such traffic through Anderby but there are choke points at various parts of the village, and the small bridge has n’t the strength to deal with such vehicular transits.
Footpath 21 is now overgrown and needs a small bridge to span the small gulley. This needs reporting.
There is a war memorial in this immediate area (by the Church) and just for information, the Chairman had been looking into the history of the village and stated that there had been 3 aircraft crashed in the vicinity, one being a Wellington Bomber in 1943. (The information was not precise and just said that it was in a field at Anderby Creek.)

Matthew Davey from LCC has advised that dens are being built on the Spinney and LCC would be obliged if we could put something on our Facebook pages to discourage this as it leads to damage to the environment, litter, anti social behaviour etc.
The Bird Hide is now complete and an opening ceremony will be held in the coming weeks.
- Update about AC roundabout – seal naming and maintenance?
A competition is to be run to name our seals on the roundabout, and Tom has volunteered to apply the special sealant/preservative.
- A1 Poster design – update
A thank you to Tom Lake for his great work at producing the Poster reminding visitors of the dangers of using inflatables in the sea. These have now been printed and will be on display before the season starts.
- Sink hole in Sandy Lane?
A sink hole has opened up on Sandy Lane – badger damage. This Lane is part of the King Charles III Coastal Path and is now undermined by the badger’s activity and needs urgent repair but as the Lane is unadopted the cost implications are worrying to Residents.
The Clerk to make representations to the relevant bodies.
- Work completed on Church landscaping but extra needed?
- Bus shelter grant? Not required as the bus shelter is due to be removed.
- DC Grants? To be decided once the value is announced by ELDC.
- Closure of Anderby Creek toilets – general information.
Work on the Creek toilets has begun. Visitors can use the portaloo’s provided.
- Poli.is update?
It was felt that this was an easy to use site and a good concept, but was probably better if the trial was with a parish council with little Resident involvement. Anderby is lucky in that respect. The PC are very active and have a Facebook presence and a separate organisation (ACT) that regularly feeds back any issues with the area.
- Year end accounts
To be confirmed next month
- Finance:
- To approve payment of outstanding accounts
Alford Gardening Services £3293.60 for Graveyard/church yard work.
It was noted during the meeting that AGS could not accept cheques and could only be paid using the BACS system. The Clerk informed the PC that there was no facility for the council to pay by BACS as it has no system in place to cope with the security implications of this and was contrary to the Localism Act 2011. Any possibility to do this would have to be written into the Standing Orders, and could be done in conjunction with Lloyds bank and their system of 2 persons on-line authorisation. This would take time to set up and delay the payment.
It was decided to pay this amount into the Clerk’s bank account via cheque, and once cleared, he would issue payment. – Chq Number 1001
(Note…..this has been completed and payment made and noted within 3 days of the meeting)
- Any cheques required for immediate action –
- Clerk’s salary - £683.10 Chq Number 996
- Visual Display for Snap Frame - £21.60 Chq Number 997
- Vista Print - £39.68 Chq Number 998
- Date of next meeting Monday 20th APRIL 2026 – the AGM.
- Any other business for discussion only or next agenda
It was noted that the gates to the Graveyard cannot open properly because of a build up of soil/roots just behind them. A quote needed to rectify.
Lych Gates – it would be great to have a Lych Gate in the church as it used to have. The Clerk to investigate prices.
There is an issue with dog fouling in the area – primarily caused by the l;ack of ELDC waste bins. An application was made late last year but not even acknowledged by the District Council. Could we have some posters to put up in the area? A quick decision was made by the PC as the situation was getting worse, so £30 was agreed to be able to spend on such posters.
Roger David is looking at all furniture on the coastal path – benches etc – so the PC do not have to buy anymore going forward.
